Critical Race Theory

An outgrowth of the European Marxist school of critical theory, critical race theory is an academic movement which seeks to link racism, race, and power to America’s key institutions.

In 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech near the Lincoln Memorial. Part of that speech was:

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

In today’s culture, we are no longer focused on creating a society in which character outweighs all other features in a person. Instead, Critical Race Theory based on a movement in academia to link racism, race and power-focuses on a person’s race rather than character. A leading Critical Race Theory voice, Ian Haney Lopez, a law professor at University of California at Berkley, says that race is a social contract and that the law helps to perpetuate “social hierarchies” based on race.

There is a growing push to include Critical Race Theory in school curriculum for all ages. This is wrong. Critical Race Theory has no place in schools. Instead of “teaching” kids about their being oppressed or being oppressors, schools should focus on teaching basic reading, STEM and writing curriculum. This prevents our students from falling behind where they should be, in addition to setting them up for success as adults with the ability to achieve all America has to offer its citizens.

I want my children to be judged by the character I have instilled in them as a parent. I am teaching them the importance of work ethic along with honesty and kindness. The way someone looks is irrelevant. Let’s stop teaching our children that how they look on the outside matters.
